WiNRADiO Digital Suite

Note: This software has been superseded. Please consider our suggested replacement software Advanced Digital Suite.

Opening the Window to Digital Radio Communications

The WiNRADiO Digital Suite is an optional software package, a collection of digital signal processing modules, fully integrated with WiNRADiO 1000, 1500 and 3000 series receivers. Together, they represent a breakthrough in reception of digitally coded radio communications - never before has such a comprehensive collection been made available at such a low cost and so elegantly integrated with a PC-based radio receiver.

The WiNRADiO Digital Suite expands the power of your WiNRADiO receiver with numerous digital processing facilities, including:

WEFAX (Satellite Weather Fax)
HF Fax
Packet Radio
Aircraft Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS)
Dual Tone Multi-Frequency Signalling (DTMF)
Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System (CTCSS)
Signal Classifier
Audio Oscilloscope and Spectrum Analyzer
Squelch-controlled Audio Recorder and Playback

Upon installation, the WiNRADiO Digital Suite will appear as a new menu entry in the WiNRADiO receiver software, and all the above modules can be invoked from there.

Fax Module

Weatherfax

The facsimile module enables the reception of orbiting weather satellites and HF fax. Received images are decoded and displayed in real time. Sophisticated decoding and image processing methods are used to display received images with maximum clarity.

Packet Radio

Packet Radio

This version of AX.25 standard packet radio decoder implements protocol monitoring of two most common modulation techniques used in the amateur radio packet network: 1200 Baud FM AFSK (used above 30MHz) and 300 Baud FSK, common on amateur HF bands.

Aircraft Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS)

ACARS

ACARS is an air/ground network which enables aircraft to function as mobile computer terminals, with links to control stations. Although most airliners use this system, only parts of the transmission protocol are standardized or publicly accessible. This implementation of the ACARS decoder allows decoding of common types of messages, while leaving unrecognized parts in plain text form (as received).

DTMF

DTMF In radiocommunications, the Dual Tone Multi-Frequency coding is used in various signalling systems, while radioamateurs utilize this system to control repeaters and other remotely-controlled devices. This implementation of a DTMF decoder contains a logging facility, which allows later inspection of received codes together with time/date information.

CTCSS

CTCSS

CTCSS (Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System, sometimes referred to as PL or Private Line) decoder is useful for monitoring of communication channels with sub-audible tone signalling. This is particularly suitable for scanning purposes, where a particular user, or a desired group of users, can selectively monitored. This decoder also implements recording of transmissions with a specified subcarrier into Windows standard ".wav" files.

Signal Classifier

Signal Classifier This module makes it possible to distinguish different types of signals commonly encountered while scanning. By selecting only the desired signal types, scanning can be speeded up quite substantially. The following classification categories are implemented: noise, data or silent channel (unmodulated carrier). By eliminating these, voice-only channels can be detected.

Thresholds for detection are user-adjustable to be able to finely tune the Classifier to suit a particular type of signal being searched for.

Audio Oscilloscope

Audio Storage Oscilloscope

This module presents a fully-fledged storage oscilloscope with a scrollable Waveform Grabber. This tool is available for analysis of audio signals from DC to 20kHz, with dynamic range given by the quality of the sound card (usually better than 80 dB).

Audio Spectrum Analyzer

Audio Spectrum Analyzer

The Audio Spectrum Analyzer uses an advanced FFT algorithm together with optimized CPU machine coding, which allows real time spectrum analysis with a brilliant responsiveness. A user definable set of markers makes it possible to determine frequencies with resolution of a few Hz.

Squelch Controlled Recorder

Squelch-controlled Recorder The WiNRADiO Digital Suite makes it possible to record and playback the received signal, using Windows standard ".wav" files. Recording can be turned on and off automatically depending on the received signal level - this is controlled by the squelch setting of the WiNRADiO receiver.
